Welcome to Year 2!
Welcome to Year 2's page! This is an exciting and important year for you and your child as they approach their last year in key stage 1. We aim to provide a smooth transition between year groups, as it is of great importance to us that the children are supported in the best way possible, to ensure they feel safe and happy to learn. We aim to provide the children with a rich learning environment where children can learn effectively inside and outside of the classroom. Over the year, swimming, role play and forest school will continue to be a feature of school life in Year 2. Wherever possible, we take on a thematic approach to your child’s learning. This allows them to become immersed in the theme regardless of its specific subject. Ultimately, we want your child to enjoy learning and explore their interests further. Children will follow a programme of study to meet the curriculum for Year 2 with a daily maths and English session as well as targeted phonics.
PE is on a Monday and Wednesday. Children will need to bring in their PE kits and suitable footwear.
This will be in the second part of Autumn, after the half term break. Due to the unpredictable weather, please ensure children are well prepared with warm layers and ready for wet weather!
Your child has been given a learning pack to support home learning. This will include their reading book, reading log, spelling book, any letters and any additional resources that we think may be useful. Please make sure this is returned everyday.
Please try to read with your child three times a week. They will be rewarded for the amount of times they read at home through our Reading Rocket Challenge! You could support them by asking them questions about the text they have read.
Your child will be provided with spellings each week on a Wednesday and will be tested on a Monday.
A letter regarding a SATs meeting will be sent home during the first half term. SATs information can be found here. You can read the 'exemplification materials' to help with your understanding of the level your child is working at.

On a final note, we would welcome any parents into our year group to help in class on a regular basis or for a specific purpose. If you are able to offer your time, and have or are willing to be DBS checked, please get in touch with your child’s class teacher to arrange a suitable time.
Thank you for your support,
